Ushindi Baraka, a brave 7-year-old from Kilifi, dreams of walking and going to school like other children. Born with a leg complication, he needs an artificial leg to gain mobility and independence. His parents, Konde and Amina, are struggling, unable to afford his medical care or education.

Julius Wawera should be enjoying his first steps into formal education. But instead of sitting in a classroom, he often stays home in Kiwapa, near Mkoroshoni Primary in Kilifi County, because his mother cannot afford school fees.

Julius’s story is heartbreaking but not uncommon. His mother, Bihija Juma, became pregnant while still in Class 7, and the father vanished — never to return or support his child. Despite her young age and the daily struggles she faces, Bihija is doing all she can to raise her son, but it’s simply not enough.

Ethel Tunda is a bright and determined 9-year-old girl from Kiwapa in Kilifi County. She walks to Korosho Primary every day with a heart full of hope  but that hope is at risk. Despite her eagerness to learn, Ethel may have to drop out because her family cannot afford to keep her in school.

Ethel comes from a large family of seven children. Her father lives with a disability and cannot work. Her mother does casual labor to keep the family afloat, but the burden is overwhelming. With so many mouths to feed and needs to meet, school fees and essentials like books and uniforms become impossible to afford.

You can help by covering Ethel’s school fees, meals, and learning materials.
